wamun
letter from the secretary generals
Esteemed delegates and faculty advisors,
It is our utmost pleasure to give you the warmest of welcomes to the fifteenth edition of Washington Academy Model United Nations (WAMUN). We have preparing over the last months to provide you an exceptional substantive experience. Nonetheless, this is not about us, this is about you, about our country, and about our world. Therefore, our objective is that you promote your personal growth by engaging in important debates regarding global concerns, which will not only enrich your views about the world that surrounds us, but will also help you confront the challenges that you will face in a future professional life, keeping true to our school’s motto: “We give the tools to cope with life.”
We have poured our hearts and souls into making WAMUN XV a remarkable opportunity for you to be inquirers and risk-takers that develop new abilities, which will help you become critical, ethical, and innovative thinkers when understanding the dynamics of our world, because all our choices have an impact in the future. Respect, tolerance, generosity, honesty, and responsibility are values that we must always rely on and cannot lose sight of, because they are what truly makes us humans. This is something we must all strive to be, living in a community is one most important things in life, as Fernando Savater tells us: “We must treat the others as humans to be humans ourselves.” Sometimes we must make decisions and choosing what is correct, instead of being easy, is difficult, because in a convulsed world, you must hold up to your principles. Doing what is correct is expressing yourself freely and defending your ideals while maintaining a strong sense of integrity. Express yourselves without fear, because the one who takes the risk, may win or lose, but the one who does not, will never know if they could have won.

Both of us have attended MUN’s since sixth grade and we look back to all those weekends as special everlasting memories that have expanded our knowledge and perspectives. We too have been in your position, we have been delegates and attending an MUN still gives us the thrills and excitement it did in 6th grade. To new delegates, as we were then, we ask you not be afraid, be sure you are going to have great experiences. To experienced delegates, as we are now, we ask you to work with the passion you had the first year you were in MUN. To every delegate, we ask you to be persistent and insistent. Even though things may not be going your way, keep on. The good delegate is not always the one that speaks pretty or knows more, rather the one with that manages the committee in a balanced way by working in collaboration with others, negotiating, and defending the solutions that they consider pertinent. The world needs people with experience and passion. These things lead us to be great people, and not only because we do great things, but because we are good in character and will always do what needs to be done and what is right.
In the time remaining until WAMUN, please do not hesitate to reach out to your Chairs throughout their personal emails or us through wamun@aw.edu.ve. We all want to ensure that you are prepared to have the most meaningful weekend possible and would love to hear from you. We look forward to welcoming you at WAMUN 2019, and may we wish you the best of luck and success in this forthcoming edition.
Best regards,
Bárbara Masieri
